Leave a Legacy

Southside Center of Hope, formerly St. Martin de Porres House of Hope, established the Legacy Fund in September 2016 as a lasting tribute to Sister Therese O’Sullivan and Sister Connie Driscoll, who together founded our social services agency as a shelter in 1983.

Starting with $15 and 19 beds, Sisters Connie and Therese rehabbed the building themselves, knocking out part of a brick wall, putting in lintels and sleeping in the kitchen.

Since then, guided by their example of unparalleled leadership and service to others, the agency has transformed the lives of more than 4,000 women who were once homeless and struggling with substance abuse.

Through our work, women in need gain access to transitional housing, comprehensive substance abuse recovery, and case management services for both them and their children – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Remaining true to the Sisters’ wishes, the agency is fully private, accepting little funding from the government and no funding from the Roman Catholic Church. The Sisters’ original commitment to our long-term sustainability is made possible by the Legacy Fund.

Your support of the Legacy Fund upholds our mission to help women survive, heal and grow, as well as restore their families. Together, we can help end the effects of homelessness and substance abuse on Chicago’s women and children.
